CONTACT: Lily Yacobi (201) 227-6161; lyacobi@sarahdavid.com ENGLEWOOD, NJ, September 30, 2006 – Sarah and David Interactive, the innovative educational publisher of Hebrew language curriculum based here, has redesigned its website, www.sarahdavid.com, adding features that make it more user-friendly and increase its enrichment value for teachers, students and parents. “Hebrew is HOT!” announces the site’s Home Page. “If you want to learn Hebrew, you’ve come to the right place. And now with Sarah and David Interactive it’s fun and exciting.” This message is conveyed throughout the site, with its bold color palette and easy-to-navigate links that enhance the appeal of the central characters, ‘Sarah’ and ‘David’ and the accessibility of the material. One goal of the site redesign, say Sarah and David Interactive creators Diana and Lily Yacobi, is to provide new tools to reinforce lessons outside formal classroom instruction. “We aim to make learning portable,” asserted Lily Yacobi. “Anyone with access to a computer can take advantage of our system, which makes the challenge of mastering a new language fun and visually attractive.” An Activity Center invites site visitors to download puzzles, games, brain teasers as supplemental instruction in Hebrew reading and comprehension. “Connect the Letters,” “Color by Letter” and “Sarah and David Bingo” are all creative new ways to boost letter recognition. Teachers are encouraged to distribute materials from the website to students to reinforce classroom lessons, while children and parents are free to access these same tools for practice at home. Another cool, new feature helps youngsters expand their vocabulary: Shabbat-O-Grams and Holiday Greetings that may either be printed out or emailed directly from the site. There are even directions for creating original messages and designs. On the Books Page, educators can now find Audio Clips for selected story book pages. To support teachers in the growing Sarah & David community, the Yacobis have created The Teacher’s Lounge where teachers will find “FREE materials to support the teacher’s efforts and keep students motivated. Every tool we offer educators is downloadable – that means you can print them out and use them in class immediately.” To support spoken Hebrew in the curriculum, a complete Transliteration is available for all of the picture words and phrases in “Sarah and David Picture Book” and “I Can Read Hebrew” pages of the reading curriculum. Teacher Notes on Page 4 of each Hebrew Reading Workbook appear together and draw the teacher’s attention to new skills introduced and topics in each book that the teacher should be aware of before teaching the material. Progress Charts and Certificates of Completion give teachers additional ways to track their students’ increasing skill and give them positive feedback. Sarah and David Interactive, launched by the mother-daughter team in 2004, is a company on the move. With their energetic approach to making Hebrew language hip and once again a central facet of Jewish identity, the Yacobis have created buzz at the annual CAJE (Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education) Conference. At this year’s convention, they reportedly sold their curriculum to educational directors from over 40 supplemental schools in 17 states across the U.S. (California, New Jersey, Connecticut, Oklahoma, Maryland, Arizona, Florida, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, New Hampshire, Washington, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Michigan) and in the Dominican Republic. “She liked the materials because there isn’t a lot of English,” noted Lily Yacobi of the Spanish-speaking Jewish educator. The website is now an integral facet of the Yacobis’ corporate marketing strategy. Commented Yacobi, “By making the site more user-friendly and offering free online resources that supplement our educational products, we can engage a broader audience and achieve our core mission: to promote Jewish continuity through the acceptance and mastery of Hebrew in the modern world.”
